For my performance piece I wanted to replicate something I had seen performed before. I drew the inspiration for this piece from the Blue Man Group, which is a dynamic combination of art, music, comedy and technology, the show’s euphoric celebration of human connection has the universal ability to relate to a broad range of people around the globe. The performance that I wanted to replicate, in a new way, was their act of pouring paint onto drums and playing them. I wanted to have a performance that was fun to perform yet, would end up with a work of art that would be interesting. For my performance I made paper mache bowls which I then used to hold my paint. After the first step of making the bowls, I then watered down the four different colored paints. Laying down a canvas in the grass, I placed all of the bowls on top of that canvas, then I filled those bowls with the paint. Once all of the preparation for this piece was done, I began the performance. For the actual performance I started “playing the drums”. I used drumsticks to hit the bowls of paint to case them to splatter up in the air then to fall back down onto the canvas. This performances end result included a final painting after the bowls were cleared away.
